As you skirt round the outside walls of the castle you notice a rusted metal grille a few inches above the level of the moat. The boat is unsteady and the metal bars are stuck more firmly than - [pg 14](https://www.mollygetsitdone.com/cyoa/pg-14/) - “Huzzah!” cries the crone and uses her fingers to whistle sharply. A pure white steed gallops from behind the gatehouse and stops next to you. She helps you up on the horse and then slaps its flank. As you are carried away across the fields you hear the crone’s voice on the wind calling out - [pg 15](https://www.mollygetsitdone.com/cyoa/pg-15/) - You pull on the dangling rope and at first nothing happens. You try again, with a more definite yank. There is a grinding sound, and the jaw of the carved stone dragon’s head to your left starts to open. Inside the beast’s mouth is your treasure: a sparkling crystal. - [pg 20](https://www.mollygetsitdone.com/cyoa/pg-20/) - After what seems like hours, you reach the top of the stairs and enter a circular room. You realise you must be at the very top of the tallest turret of the castle. Between the narrow windows, thick tapestries line the walls, depicting the feats of a great wizard. There are various tables strewn with - [pg 13](https://www.mollygetsitdone.com/cyoa/pg-13/) - Climbing through the door, you find some stone steps. They are worn in the centre and dark with moisture. You carefully walk down into the darkness. You are amazed to find the steps lead you to a cave with a sparkling waterfall cascading in the middle. There mst be light finding its way in from - [pg 24](https://www.mollygetsitdone.com/cyoa/pg-24/) - Passing through the archway at the end of the hall you feel the sun on your skin once more. You are standing in a sizeable courtyard, filled with plants. What must once have been an ornate display is now overgrown. Fauna is flourishing where people clearly have not. You start to push your way along - [pg 23](https://www.mollygetsitdone.com/cyoa/pg-23/) - You draw up by a small jetty. Tying the boat up with a soggy rope, you step onto the cracked wooden boards. There’s nothing here and you start to get frustrated. Then you notice that the top of one of the posts looks different to the others: cleaner, less weathered. You run your fingers over - [pg 22](https://www.mollygetsitdone.com/cyoa/pg-22/) - You reach out to touch the glove of the suit of armour to your right. As you make contact, something shifts and the long axe held by the glove falls: tragically directly on your neck. - [pg 21](https://www.mollygetsitdone.com/cyoa/pg-21/) - At the bottom of the ladder is a small wooden rowing boat. It looks fairly ancient, but seems to be seaworthy. You carefully step in and begin to row, thinking about why you are unsure about a site. - [pg 19](https://www.mollygetsitdone.com/cyoa/pg-19/) - You lean out as far as you can from the turret window, hoping to glimpse some clue down below for where to go next. Your toes slip on the fringed edge of a rug and you tumble down into the castle’s moat. Your time for clue-finding is at an end. - [pg 18](https://www.mollygetsitdone.com/cyoa/pg-18/) - The crone gestures to the bridge and you walk towards it. You start to cross over, careful not to slip on the moss-covered stone. You hesitate, her words echoing in your mind. Why aren’t you ready for a new website? - [pg 17](https://www.mollygetsitdone.com/cyoa/pg-17/) - Pushing aside bushy branches and stepping over brambles, you head further into the courtyard. You discover what you assume is the centre, where the path encircles a carved stone planter. Somehow unencumbered by weeds, an exotic flower stands proudly within it. You peer inside the petals and instead of pollen you find what you’ve been - [pg 16](https://www.mollygetsitdone.com/cyoa/pg-16/) - You break off a corner of the piece of cake and eat it gratefully. Only after you swallow do you notice the thick black mould permeating the sponge. Sadly, it is slow to wreak its havoc in your body and – unable to make it back up the stairs to find help – it is - [pg 12](https://www.mollygetsitdone.com/cyoa/pg-12/) - You are standing in the entrance hall to the castle. Wide flagstones are under your feet and vaulted ceilings soar up above you. Two suits of armour flank the hallway, seeming to gaze into each other’s unseeing visors. In front of you is an archway into a courtyard. To your right is a doorway through - [pg 11](https://www.mollygetsitdone.com/cyoa/pg-11/) - You pull off a handful of the small purple berries from the bush next to you. Tossing them into your mouth and chewing, at first there is a pleasant sweetness but soon a bitter aftertaste overwhelms your senses. The poison acts so swiftly, you can almost feel it coursing through each vein. You crumple to - [pg 10](https://www.mollygetsitdone.com/cyoa/pg-10/) - This woman does not take kindly to being ignored and she mutters a few choice words under her breath. The curse acts swiftly, and a bolt of lightning streaks down from the sky and ends your life. - [pg 9](https://www.mollygetsitdone.com/cyoa/pg-9/) - The old crone looks deeply into your eyes and croaks “I can see a fiery spirit in ye. Could it be that ye are ready for a new website? Or have ye another quest in mind?” - [pg 7](https://www.mollygetsitdone.com/cyoa/pg-7/) - Despite your impressive run-up, you barely make it as far as the middle of the moat. You plunge down into the freezing water, attracting the attention of a crocodile you hadn’t noticed before. It clamps its powerful jaws around you, ending your adventure once and for all. - [pg 6](https://www.mollygetsitdone.com/cyoa/pg-6/) - A few panes of the greenhouse are cracked or missing and the rest are clouded with dust and grime. But the sun is still getting through, creating a soft light and definite warmth you feel as you step in. There are pots of all shapes and sizes on a wooden bench to your left and - [pg 5](https://www.mollygetsitdone.com/cyoa/pg-5/) - “Aha!” cries the crone, cackling in delight. “My grandmother foretold that an event organiser would wander these lands and require my aid. I have what ye seek.” She removes a silver chain from around her neck and opens a locket to reveal a crystal. She offers it to you and you take it, thanking her - [pg 4](https://www.mollygetsitdone.com/cyoa/pg-4/) - You head down the spiral stone steps, your footsteps echoing in the darkness. At the bottom, you enter a cavernous kitchen. Heavy iron pots and pans line the walls and a well-worn wooden table is in the centre. You notice another staircase ahead and a small wooden door to your left as you think about - [pg 3](https://www.mollygetsitdone.com/cyoa/pg-3/) - You stand by the table and examine each item on it. You seem to find every shape and material imaginable. Finally, under a ceramic green pot, you find what you have been seeking: a crystal. - [pg 2](https://www.mollygetsitdone.com/cyoa/pg-2/) - You take each tool down from the rack one by one, to discover if any are still usable. While testing out some rusty shears they slip from your grasp and land, blade first, into your abdomen. - [pg 1](https://www.mollygetsitdone.com/cyoa/pg-1/) - You have been on the road for many months, seeking the crystal treasure. Weary from your travels, you are starting to wonder if the legends are even true and thinking of giving up the quest. As you go over the crest of a hill, you see an imposing castle that isn’t on your map.
